Mini Triumph – Kirsty Lowe, Classroom Teacher

What did you change about the way that you evaluate?

Designing evaluation for training

To support in evaluating how well we are supporting children’s speech, language and communication in the early years, we used the Communication Supporting Classroom Observation Tool (CSCOT) as a framework to inform observations and provide feedback on practice to colleagues. We worked closely with our SALT to support how best we could use this tool also.

To ensure that this practice was embedded, we involved several members of the team in using the CSCOT and when planning observations.

Involving stakeholders

Using a recognised tool to use as a framework to guide observations will support the team to peer review each other’s practice and plan to improve. Involving different members of the team will ensure that using the tool and the observations themselves will be sustainable.
