1) How do you use evidence in practice?

After participating on TCT’s programme of academic support and assessing how best to use evidence in practice, I found that considering the evidence when commissioning support for speech, language and communication is crucial. Although we already place a focus on clearly understanding the needs of children before commissioning, I have now also committed to looking to the evidence base behind interventions and resources before making a decision on how best to support children’s speech, language and communication.

2) What impact has this had?

Decisions around support will now always be backed by evidence. Accessing the evidence base has also drawn my attention to effective evidenced universal practice. I am now developing my expertise in this and feel confident that everything that we’re doing as a school to support communication has been informed by the evidence.
